The Edge Singapore has revised its cover price and subscription rates from $3 to $3.80 with effect from July 7, 2008.

In their announcement in The Edge Singapore on June 30 and July 7 issues, all existing subscribers would be eligible to renew their subscriptions in advance at the old subscription rate and the offer was supposed to end on August 9, 2008.

The Edge Singapore has decided to extend this special offer by another week to August 15, 2008.

If you are an existing subscriber of The Edge, you can renew in advance at the rate of $52 for 52 copies.

There has been a lack of updates for the past few days as I have fallen sick. Measured a temperature of 38.5°C the other day along with the standard running nose, cough and sore throat.

It is quite amazing how fast medical inflation has come along - a 5 minute consultation at a GP near my house costs me a grand total of $54 including the medicine.

My cough seems to be getting worse, so I will be making another trip to the doctor this afternoon. Getting sick in Singapore can be a pretty costly affair.

Macquarie has just launched their 2nd Macquarie Warrant Hotshot Competition. This stimulated live warrants trading contest starts on 14th July 2008 and will run for a period of 8 weeks.

There are four categories you can sign up and compete in:

Each group of participants will compete for the weekly prize of $200 and category prize of $3000. There will also be a grand hotshot prize of $20,000 for the overall winner.

Generally speaking, trading for a competition requires a different set of strategy compared to trading your own portfolio.

In the former, the aim is to generate the highest possible percentage gains (in a short time) while taking on the corresponding downside risk.

In the latter, consistency of gains over time is much more important.

I saw from last week’s copy of The Edge that they were increasing their cover price. After six years, their price will be increased from $3 to $3.80. This works out to be a 26.7% increase (or about 4% annualised).

Existing subscribers can renew at 50% off the old rate if they inform the edge of their intention before 9th Aug 2008. Just send an email to hotlinespore@bizedge.com with your subscription information and the word Renew in the subject header.
